Incorruptible!

What is character…??  Is it only showing goodness to people, going out and doing charity work, giving blessings to everybody, showing that you care and that you are a saint…??  Is character something of your ego, something which may change at any given time–i.e., “I change my character with certain people,” “I love you but not them,” “I act this way now but tomorrow my character will change”…??

37107878_500681253698575_7828254427323564032_n
No, character is not something which depends on your environment or on the people around you, thus your character must not be corrupted by your emotional moods; so think of your character as something divine, unchangeable, because it really is–opposite to what most ignorant people think it is.

For example, you carry truth and you guide yourself by truth, thus you do not gossip, you do not blame and attack others.  But let’s say one day your friends are gathered doing just this, being obnoxious; and so they call you to be with them.  You do not start gossiping with them just because you want them to like you, but you embrace your divine character, the truth which guides your conscience.  You are your true self alone, with them, and with everybody.

integrity

And where does true character start strengthening itself and growing…??  It grows within you, when you are alone, stressed, moody, pressured by your life’s problems.  If you can build and strengthen character by yourself, alone, in your own mind, then, in all situations, you can be a light unto others and you will also remain true to your higher self.  Character is loving truth, loving yourself–not your ego, but the being underneath it.  Divine character is not a display of kind words and gentle activities with others, but it is how you carry yourself with yourself–i.e., how loving you are with yourself in self-talk, how truthful you are with yourself with matters of health and all morality, how understanding you are in life’s difficult situations, etc. etc…  A divine character is a strong character which will not bend or be corrupted by anything at all.  Can you understand this and put it into practice…??

What is being filled right now…

What are you allowing yourself to be each moment you live, right now, for the next situation which arises, for this and the next thought…?? You choose how you project yourself and how you behave in each moment, do you not…?? What percentage of you is love, understanding, and moral character, would you say…??–And do you act or behave accordingly in all situations (not in the situations which you like, but in all of them)…??
36517386_489585344808166_4550851118099333120_n

Your moods, your mental stress and frustration, your indecision, your poor choices–they all are about you, about the essence you allow to fill your mind.  Of course, life challenges you, you feel pressures, you feel loneliness, neglect, the past coming back to you; however, all that you are as a human being is your own mind, so you allow yourself to be love and live or to be fear and die in your mind.  For example, I may regret my marriage, or my hurtful words to someone, or my overall poor education, or my current health status, but what defines me is really my mind right now preparing for my next step, my next choice.
That is, what defines me is my present mind content, my present feel, my present behavior; because all this is the content that will project me and take me onto a better behavior in the next step I take or situation in which I will be.

The proportion of your being, of your humanity, of your character, is measured by what fills your mind right now, either fear or love; and so, that is why self-awareness is so important, because you must know the very content of your own mind in order to be truly free.  If you neglect to fill your own mind with love and understanding each moment and so choose to allow your outer circumstances and situations to dictate your mind’s content instead, then you will make terrible mistakes and fail over and over again–and, worse, you will be confused as to why your life is not progressing and you are suffering.

You are what your mind is at this moment, so remember that all the time:  You may lie with your words to someone, you may even tell yourself that you are fine, perhaps you smile all day and show yourself nice to the public, you may go to group meditation and follow all the nonsense they teach you there; however, this is superficial, a pitiful front, a mere facade, the beauty of a red apple which perhaps is rotten and filled with worms inside…  Don’t wait for a better situation in your life to fill your mind’s content with love and understanding; life is right now, your mind must be right now…

images
Every situation, every second you live is measured and dependent on what your mind contains right now, thus your life is right now.  Forget and forgive what happened a moment ago, if you do not it can only infiltrate your mind and corrupt the next moment you live.  Learn to fill your mind with a rich content of greater love for what you do and a deeper understanding of your happiness right now.  Not a moment later, not when things get better, RIGHT NOW.

Perfect mirror…

everything-in-your-life-every-experience-every-relationship-is-a-mirror-of-the-mental-pattern-that-quote-1
Life is you, and you are life.  There is no other experience to you but yours, and that is how you live the best life–by following your own experience.  Sadly, there are people out there who live guided by the experience of others instead of by their own; and so, religion is born, politics is maintained by the ignorant rabble, and wars on nations are thriving due to idiots who follow their unwise masters.  And all this happening in the world is relationship, atrocious and misguided relationships with society; such stupidity going back and forth, seeking a “solution,” seeking “truth,” reaching for “justice” in the very depths of hell, so no one has a good relationship with oneself.  If you have a good, honest, truthful, loving relationship with yourself then you have all the love, understanding and happiness you need–i.e., you have found God and the eternal, you have found paradise and all source of strength.  Have you found all this in you yet…??  (Be honest with yourself).

If you have a good and loving relationship with yourself you do not need religion, and you do not need to sustain and argue about politics, and you do not need to support any wars, and you do not live eating meats and fats, and you do not live pleasing your family, and the rest of the nonsense people do.  So, I ask you again, have you found true love within yourself yet…??  Do you really have a good and honest relationship with yourself…??

quote-only-in-relationship-can-you-know-yourself-not-in-abstraction-and-certainly-not-in-isolation-the-jiddu-krishnamurti-346129
Relationship then is being human.  Why…??  Because being human, the reality of it, is behavior, not a thought or a feeling or an intention.  Only through relationship, through behavior you live experiences and know yourself; this is life, ongoing adventure, exploration, progress, shaping your character, learning how to treat yourself and others.  But if you are just living without learning, without actually improving and observing your own behaviors towards yourself and others, then what is the point…??  Just living without learning, without becoming better and progressing in character in relationship, is poverty, human poverty, poverty of mind, poverty of character (a weak woman, a weaker man); thus, the mirror is cracked and you only see yourself distorted, ugly and ignorant in the relationships you have in life–in your job, in your family, with your husband, with your wife, with your kids, with yourself, without love, without deeper understanding of what you go through, suffering over and over again and feeling depressed each time.

Look around you, whatever or whoever is nagging you, whatever or whoever is stressing you or making you suffer in any way, is the relationship you have with life and with people; and you have no one to blame but yourself, even though your ego will find excuses and put guilt on others.  You project into the world, into your situations, into people, what you are and how you treat yourself; for all life is, indeed, is a relationship–i.e., your divinity is in relationship with your humanity, and your humanity with the world you experience with your physical eyes…  So, focus on yourself and the most important relationship, and the rest will mirror it perfectly…

What is driving you…??

There has to be an engine which drives you in life, in order for you to accept challenges and create great beauty in your path or in order to fail and self-pity your attempts over and over again; furthermore, this inner strength or drive must be based on something real, something everlasting and strong, something which is not made from a thought or concept.  Reality.  Namely love, not fear.
Character is the moral and ethical values which drive your life, what certainly creates you from within; and without this higher character you cannot build a successful and truly happy life.  Happiness is not an outcome of any exterior success or achievement, as most people believe in ignorance, but it is the ever flowing substance that you are and which can only be embraced and experienced if you carry your mental and physical body with high morals/with excellent character.

Character offers you mental freedom and peace to be yourself and fill this same mind with truth and love/a higher understanding.
quote-character-is-the-spiritual-body-of-the-person-and-represents-the-individualization-of-vital-edwin-percy-whipple-380033

On the other hand, reputation is what the ego pushes on you–i.e., a better pay, a better person compared to others, a more successful career, a man or woman of nicer words, etc. etc.  Reputation is beliefs and opinions others have about you, and this cannot bring you true happiness because this reputation does not allow you to be unique, independent, free of the demands and opinions of others.

Reputation, even though society sees it differently, is based on fear, it is attachment to others fearing that they do not approve of you.  When you pursue reputation, your mind is not at peace but it is agitated and struggling to make others like you.

But to be yourself and base your life and your actions on love and truth is to express your heart, it is to learn to free yourself from the expectation of others so you can be mentally free and able to see your own path clearly.  So, ponder this:  What is it that is driving you really in your life today…??  Is it what others might think of you…??  Or is it your unique character to express yourself freely…??  (Be honest with yourself.)

Strengthen your character.

“Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.” ~ Buddha.

“Be Impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.” ~ Don Miguel Ruiz; Mexican author of Toltec spiritualist and neoshamanistic texts.

Quite often we tend to react emotionally to situations and people, destroying trust and distancing ourselves from clarity; and this happens when the mind is overwhelmed and angered, in conversations or even when we keep anger inside that we cannot contain.

So, that is when the mind explodes and careless words come flying out just like daggers thrust to an opponent in battle; however, as in battle, the greatest warriors are the ones who remain calm, the ones who control their reactions, and the ones who turn mental anger and fogginess into mental strength and poise.

25507656_401524340280934_730112181361257566_n
See, the fact that you must be firm and serious in your battle, in your work, in your conversation with another, does not mean you have to be careless and hurtful with your words.

Now, you must understand that when you let your mind explode and you say whatever comes out of your mouth, you are not just hurting others but you are hurting yourself; for in this process you condition your mind, your character, subconsciously perhaps, to be subjected to this poison which runs now throughout your whole system.

You not only destroy your own integrity and peace of mind, but you destroy opportunities and distance yourself from people that now see you as this ego-centered bully; furthermore, your thoughts and words of anger or incomprehension release energy which is negative and attract all sorts of stressing situations into your life.

Your character develops strength based on the control on your reactions and the intentions you carry in thoughts and words.

Anatomy and physiology of life

Light of the story.

“I think the best stories always end up being about the people rather than the event, which is to say character-driven.”  ~ Stephen King, American author.

As you start to plan a story in your mind, a powerful desire to create rich plot and characters is born, something which can get your interest and burn passionately inside you, to thus motivate you to do your best all the way through the story, from start to finish but to enjoy the creative journey.  A very wise and professional way to do this and be successful at any form of storytelling, indeed emotionally connected, is to mentally personify key elements in that story, to pour and spread yourself in that story; therefore, the most important aspects of that story will be enriched if you write about things and experiences from your own life, and if each character, or at least the main character, has some features belonging to your persona, in order to make the story emotionally rich and real to the reader or audience.  Because there is no more emotion and reality you can talk about than the ones in your own persona and experience.

If you wish to create a character that is really different from you and that has no qualities which can be found in yourself, this is fine also if you have some experience watching people and understanding the psychology of others so you can make this new character pop up in your story; however, your main character (protagonist) will make or break your story, no matter how good the plot is and how much fantasy or action there is, so you will have to extend yourself into this particular character, embody this character in the flesh, know how he thinks and feels, his beliefs and his intentions (you must do this with all characters in your story, but most importantly with your main one).  This is the key to your story’s success, so do not ignore it.

Quotation-Beem-Weeks-character-Meetville-Quotes-112919

In the world of film-making, screenwriting mostly (the story’s true creator), it has been stated that invention is often memory in disguise.  And this means that true emotion and connection shall emerge from something you know by heart, perhaps some hint of a experience you had or some trait you have gained from your past.  See, the writer must perform in his mind, be God and be everywhere, rapidly shifting points of view that look at different characters at different moments.  The point here is to create something rich which can really move you and build a passion in you, and at the same time create something which can also move the audience and connect them to you through your work; but, obviously, if you are not successful in this process, it does not matter the wonderful scenarios depicted in your work, your art will suffer and people won’t connect to it.

I have written a screenplay, in early states of production now, called: “Michael Vega: Loose Damned.”  And for the purpose of demonstrating further, I would like to share some lines here.  I have written the main character, Michael Vega, based on me, or at least some traits:

FADES INTO BLACK, we hear rattling of chains and screaming.

EXT. ENTRANCE OF CREEK – MOMENTS LATER

The same disheveled and burned-up man comes out crawling from the quiet waters, breathing heavily while in pain.  He staggers up, looks around confused and lost.

CAMERA FOLLOWS FROM MAN’S POV, right side straight into emptiness, then left side to overlooking empty road.  On post, he sees a sign:

ASHFORD COUNTY LAKE.  HEBER 20 MILES.

Michael (V,O- Voice Over)

“Hi, my name is Michael Vega.  That much

I do remember…  And I’m not ordinary nor

          pathetic…”

CAMERA SHOWS HIS FULL FACE AND TORSO NOW, he looks 35 years old, wears the cool black, face significantly scarred.  He limps to rock and sits, sees visions (flashes) of flames and hears chains rattling, cackles and slaves being whipped.  Flashes stop and he agonizes in silence.  Clutches head.

(Side note:  A little explanation.  Notice how Michael is depicted here; this is basically me, because I am also 35 years old now, love wearing black jackets, and Michael also has endured a tough and “hellish” life, just like me in my real life.)

Continues…

Michael (V.O)

“I did something not many do to get here.

I’m looking for someone.  But this is all

I will tell you for now, you don’t need

to know more.  Just remember, I’m not

          ordinary nor pathetic.”

CAMERA PULLS OUT AND FADES IN TO BLACK, all silent except for rattling chains and screams of pain.

EXT. PAVED ROAD – SAME DAY

CAMERA FOLLOWS MICHAEL’S POV, only his heavy breathing and pained grunting are heard.  Straight view of the overlapping empty road, we see nothing but pavement, clear skies and side empty fields for a while.

CAMERA’S ANGLE CHANGES DRASTICALLY, now we see the road and his ominous shadow limping for drama scene, exhausted, about to…

6.

CAMERA SHOWS HIS SIDE BODY COLLAPSING, then zooms to face on the ground.  Centers on eyes squinting and bleeding blood.

CAMERA PULLS OUT AND FADES IN TO BLACK, all silent except for rattling chains and screams of pain…

Magic Book.”

Characters, plot, subplot, tension;
All human experience, emotional connection.
What does magic have to do with storytelling…??
Well, it is all about creating worlds, human compelling.
And why does it have to be richly character-driven…??
Because rich characters create that world, that is a given.
Great movies show and then tell, never the other way around.
Excellent novels free the mind to dream and become spellbound.
I find stories and things coming alive wherever I look,
As soon as I wake up I get lost in my magic book.
