Habits of excellence.

Life is no more than a reflection of our daily habits. For example, if you eat unhealthy foods, you will at some point struggle with illnesses, suffer physical pains, and consequently lose positivity and energy in life in all aspect. Or if you choose to let people treat you the way they please, this habit will bring you self-doubt and it will keep your mind anxious and chained to the opinions of others. And how about always letting politics frustrate you and occupy a big chunk of your thoughts??

As human beings, we are biological machines. We are ruled and made by our habits, not a single choice in the moment; but we are what we do every day. For example, I like to exercise, meditate, be ordered and clean in my daily activities, even in the most little things like cleaning the apartment and editing my upcoming young adult fantasy novel daily, BENJAMIN JONES. Fiction characters.. Step by step, the small habits like washing my dishes as soon as I finish eating. These small habits make my character and guide me into making bigger habits stick.

To adopt better habits, these are some of my suggestions. If they work for me, they might as well work for you:

1- Whenever you feel low in energy, depressed, down for some reason, is the best and most critical time for you to push yourself into better habits. Procrastination becomes a habit of self-destruction if you let it poison you.

2- Stop watching TV, reading about politics, and spending your time doing things which won’t help towards your self-development. Instead, put your mind and heart into things which help you gain self-esteem, self-worth, knowledge to actually better your life. For example, strengthen your mind with scientific facts about nutrition and about the way to expand your knowledge into certain fields.

3- Start writing, whether a journal or whatever it is. Writing daily, pondering words to express something clearly on paper. This expands your mind and gives you liberation, because doing this daily serves the purpose of letting out your emotions. One of the greatest burdens of people is not to know how to express themselves with clarity, keeping things inside, frustrating themselves because they cannot truly make themselves be heard by others. The habit of writing, whatever it is, powers your mind so it can study your own emotions and make you feel more confident about yourself.

To conclude, excellent habits are not born out of excellence. We all start from mediocrity or from messiness. Excellent habits are born step by step. First, with a mentality of seeking true success and self-improvement. Second, the courage to make your ego uncomfortable and step out of your comfort zone. Third, you improve your daily habits slowly but steadily; and you do it with a mind which envisions health and great success.

The image in your mind.

Life is about how you feel about yourself. Life is about self-discovery. Most people, as I used to long ago as well, tend to seek themselves, their identities, their value, out there in the world; however, this search is the opposite of self-exploration. It is why the focus must remain always on you, on self-development.

Two essential things to do:

1- Take care of your physical health: The most important thing is the energy from food and drink. In order to feel well, strong, full of energy and positive, you must not eat heavy foods and drink anything that is going to poison you and make you feel negative in any way.

2- Do not escape your past, your hurt, your troubles, your misery, but deal with it. Embrace it. Study it. Transform it into understanding and wisdom. The worst thing you can do is escape it through distractions–i.e., going out with friends, watching tv, traveling, relationships, etc. Deal with yourself first.

In order to feel great, successful, loved, happy with yourself, you must meet yourself. All of yourself. And make sure you accept your past, and work towards moving on. The image you build of yourself in your mind must be truthful and positive. If this happens, you will be strong and confident without caring about what others say or do.

Strengthen yourself.

Be aware of what you eat and drink.  From this will develop your mind and body.  From this will develop your energy to take on your day and the strength to overcome your obstacles. 

The chemistry in your body is affected in great manner by your immune system–its healthiness or toxicity.  Life is about quality.  A great life requires great quality indeed.  Great quality is great energy from a healthy biological system.

What is your current energy level…??  How do you feel about yourself??  Can you fight illnesses??  Are you addicted to toxic foods and drinks??  It is called self-love.  It is called self-respect.  Be self-aware and prepared, specially in these times.

Being in a good mood.

Being in a good mood is being positive, even in the face of something you do not like.  Being in a good mood means to focus on the positive side of your life.  Being in a good mood is to choose inspiring conversations and ignoring mediocre ones which do not serve you.

Being in a good mood is to give your time to people and situations in life without letting your mind be affected by any toxicity.  And to be in a good mood you must keep your mind fit, healthy, truthful; and without self-deceit and self-neglect.

To be in a good mood watch entertaining and inspiring movies which give you better mental vibrations.  To be in a good mood choose good music as well.  And to keep yourself in a good mood develop greater habits daily, inspiring and creative habits which strengthen your unique character.

Weakness.

Don’t ask what makes you weak, mediocre, immoral; for you already know.  You may lie to yourself and say that you do not know, and then play that intellectual game of always seeking and seeking answers to escape the truth; but you do know deep inside.

Extra fatty foods, physical laziness, gossip, hiding the truth, clinging to past memories, attachment to expectations, impulsive reactions, chasing money desperately, and so on and so forth.  Don’t you know then…??

What is your life if not greater development, always moving forward in you, through your better health, through your rational ideas, through your moral behaviors…??  And what are you if not your life, which is how you think and feel–so your developing experience moving forward…??

Anything that makes you weak, lazy, stubborn, envious, angry, unhealthy, etc., must not be made part of you; because, in very fact, whatever you add to you, in thinking, feeling, eating, certainly becomes you.

And you cannot live a happy life, in love with it each day, if you become weak in this aspect.  Weakness brings suffering, confusion, immorality, wrong decisions, delusions in your ways of thinking; thus, it slowly destroys your life, it slowly destroys you.

Aging and your mental garbage.

So, most people see themselves aging, wrinkles, losing muscle mass, less energy; and so, they believe that they have to accept this, and so they let themselves go either because they are lazy or because they believe that the mind will age as the body.

But they feel old and aging, losing youth and becoming depressed at this, not because of the passing of time but because of their irrational and immoral belief.  To respect and love yourself is to really ponder this, and take the necessary steps every day to become healthier, sharper, more open-minded.

Aging is really a gift from life, and you only experience this as a gift if you take care of yourself.  Do you have extra body fat which invites illness and weakens your immune system??  And what about eating the wrong foods and quantities, thus making your ability to think slower, duller, close-minded??

Why would somebody intelligent age this way, unhealthily, immorally, as an insult to yourself and as a bad example to others…??  The excuse of having no time is your excuse, isn’t it??  When you develop true love, respect, illumination, then you see beyond all these pitiful excuses.

But when will YOU see the truth about life, you keep aging but you never see it.  Why??  Life is your chance to see this, so make sure you get rid of the mental garbage which does not let you see it.

Free from illusions.

Why belief??  Believing in yourself is absolutely different, evidently.  But ideas about the future, trust in books that your mind claims as holy, this obsession with the words of others who are proclaimed saints and/or “learned.”

And not to mention stupid trust and obedience of traditions, cultural history and ideologies.  You might be old in age, but you do not have to remain attached to this nonsense.

Or you might be young and full of knowledge and fantastical ideas from other people, from gurus, from books, and from your own imagination even; however, you want to see the truth and awake, but beliefs are not the way–beliefs are what keep you asleep and ignorant or unwise.

A healthy mind is an empty mind, which is not actually empty; but it is indeed empty of any attachments to beliefs, ideas, traditions, cultures.  In order to know yourself and ALL existence, you must empty yours from any attachment whatsoever.

It is your own mind after all, and it shows you your life based upon its content.  If all you have in your mind are beliefs, traditions, attachments to ideas and philosophies, then you will live in this illusion created by the attachment to all this.

Free yourself from the illusions you carry.  Practice an empty mind, such mind is fresh, insightful, open-minded, young no matter your age, wise and ready to accept any change and new idea.

The man of truth.

You reach truth by forging yourself, not by following society and doing what they are doing.

 

People do not live by the truth, but they tell themselves that they do.  People drink alcohol, smoke, they become addicted to drugs, to sex, to partying, they become attached and obsessed with other people, with material things also, they eat meats and fill themselves with all types of unhealthy foods.  And yet, they tell themselves that they are highly moral and seeking to be better human beings.  How pathetic is this?!

The man of truth is the ONLY one who is not afraid, the ONLY one who is truly confident, and the ONLY one who illumines his path by himself and without falling into the pleasures and miseries offered by society.

When he speaks his mind, having before analyzed himself and what he claims to know, he does it without prejudice, without anger, without anxiety, and without seeking the approval from others–from family, friends, or from whomever.

When you do something unhealthy for yourself, and when you say or think something negative or unhealthy for yourself as well, you are denying yourself.  Why…??

Because by being egoistical, prideful, and by bringing into your mind fear, confusion, negativity, any type of immorality, you are then denying your true self, the one which resides beyond your petty ego, your corrupted choices, and your self-inflicted sufferings about yourself and the world around you.

So, never worry about people’s reactions, never be attached to that, because that is not your concern; however, your ONLY concern must be your own morality in thought, word, and in action.  Tell and do truth, kindly, respectfully; but firmly, with confidence.

No traditions.  No religions.  No cultures.  No pleasing others.  ONLY truth.  See this fact!  Learn to see the reality of life!

Where it lies.

When you hear Krishnamurti or Osho, or some other wise person, say that YOU are the world, that YOU are society, this is indeed not some spiritual and philosophical sentence for you to worship and repeat like a parrot without deeply knowing what it means.

It literally means YOU are the world.  If you are anxious, frustrated, suffering about the life of others, it is because you have no peace in your mind.  A truly awakened person sees the suffering in the world, feels for it, tries to help in some way; but then he moves on.

Moving on means to keep your attention inwardly, focusing on building your own peace of mind; because life is about happiness and, even though you must help others, you have to constantly work on YOUR own happiness.  First your health.  First your peace of mind.   First your psychological, emotional, and physical well-being.  Later, the rest.  First, YOU, then others.

The world is unconscious, it can be terrible, immoral, the cause of depression; however, to experience the opposite of this, happiness in you, you must learn to look at the terrible world, live in it, but keep your focus on you, on your wholeness.  This is what the path to Enlightenment, or to happiness, is all about.

Once you truly understand that the path lies inwards and that suffering the world is egoistical, then you will illumine yourself and begin your transformation into a better human being; but until then you are just pursuing your own sense of self-importance, playing the victim, and reflecting your lack of maturity into the world.

Steps to Enlightenment.

Stupid is to believe that you are thinking without really inquiring and realizing what you are doing.  Being unconscious is the choice you make, and to wake up, if you truly desire it that is, starts step by step.

Start with health, because if you are not truly healthy then no awakening is possible, no intelligence will flourish, and your brain will not function properly to allow you to see reality as it is.

You need great amounts of energy to wake up from stupidity, to awaken, to enlighten yourself; and so, health brings you that clean, vast energy.  Be honest with yourself:  Are you eating healthy…?? 

Are you consuming fruits and vegetables and adding all the nutrients that your body needs, or are you always choosing unhealthy foods and making excuses??

I choose health above ALL else personally.  I do a quick research on the foods I eat, what nutrients they have, what they do to my body specifically.  Health leads you to feel good about yourself, feeling good about yourself helps you have a clear thinking and confidence for everything you do.


Just following thoughts and imitating others and the way they eat is what being stupid really is.   And don’t eat with your ego, but eat with intelligence.  So, next time you think is difficult to awaken, think that awakening, intelligence, enlightenment, starts with the morality of health.  Stop your pitiful excuses.
