BARNABY BROWN and The Baetylus Stones

“Barnaby senses a change in the world. He knows there is a
fight coming and he wants to be fully prepared. Today, his
mind is full of Darius Dent, which is why he is slouched in
front of the T.V.”

This is a review for “BARNABY BROWN and The Baetylus Stones.” Book 2 in the series.

Check out my review of the first book in the series. Barnaby Brown and The Time Machine.

This is a sci-fi, fantasy adventure of great measure. It is about time travel and about Good vs. Evil. It starts with action as soon as you start reading it, and you get the feeling that it’ll get more intense as you keep on reading. It is also about friendship and the growth of that friendship. Because, as I mentioned on my review of the first book, we have a normal teen and his high school friends here, a loving, single mother and a an uncle who builds a time machine. It all starts very normal and innocent.

BARNABY BROWN and The Baetylus Stones begins with terrible news for the main characters. Darius Dent is released from prison. If you haven’t read the first book yet, Darius Dent is the greedy antagonist, wealthy businessman, arms dealer, and now enemy of humankind. This begins a chains of events for young Barnaby and his friends. Darius seeks power, he wants to rule the world; and now, with the evil guidance of Lord Kallick, he aims to find The Baetylus Stones to become extremely powerful, unstoppable.

As you can imagine, the adventure can only get more intense from there. This story got me hooked from the start. I find it to be a fast-paced adventure full of twists and turns. You have also teen romance, as you witness Barnaby and Polly becoming a couple and sharing deep feelings towards each other. The imagination of the author is extremely refreshing and it gives me the feeling of freedom, and that is what great fantasy should give you, a great freedom to dream of the impossible, maybe to take a break from your life and recharge.

I give it a great 4 stars.

I would like to end this review by recommending this book. If you have gotten this far in the article, it means that you are interested. Potential for happiness.

So, how does one choose what’s important in his life…?? How does one measure happiness?? The essence of happiness. Now, one thing to understand is that pleasure and happiness are two different things. Pleasure is something of the mind and relevant for this society, like money, like the need to form relationships, like a career, like the need to belong to a group. This could be good or bad. Your choice. But a deeper look into happiness tells us that happiness in none of these things. What happens if all these things I have mentioned are taken away…?? How would you feel if there is no money, no relationship with another, no career, no support and validation from a group??

Happiness, on the other hand, is something which exists in you, no matter what you have or do not have. Money cannot give you happiness for example. Money is good, but it can only give you pleasure. The pleasure to buy the food you like. The pleasure to support yourself and your family financially. The pleasure to travel. The pleasure to buy a computer and connect through the internet with millions of people. And all this pleasure is necessary or not in our societies, but it is not relevant to happiness. Just because you have money, a family, a career, or belong to a political or religious group, does not mean you’re happy. Happiness is in you, in your thoughts of inspiration and positivity; however, it has nothing to do with the superficial, even if important to you, achievements in society.

I have written an article which expands on our inner capacity. Please take a read. Hope you find it helpful: Strength. Courage. Passion.

This leads us to Great intelligence. This intelligence is not intellectual. This intelligence is highly moral, of your heart, and it speaks loudly of your inner spirit. Money cannot give you this intelligence. Books, family, religion, politics, cannot give you this intelligence. Because this intelligence is the capacity in you to be happy. Love and happiness. Plain and simple. You may have had a terrible childhood. You may have had a tragic trauma. You may be carrying much distress, loneliness, misery right now; however, the magic to actually be happy despite this still is in you. When you were a child, it was there. But as you grew up, the stress of this society, the stress to make money, the stress to build family life, the stress of disliking other religions and political parties affected you. You, subconsciously, without knowing, allowed it to happen. But you can still recover this if you reach deep within you, but it takes surrendering your anxious mind to your heart.

This one is about a little hope, learning through life, and the strength to do it. Thought it could be relevant as well: Thus Awaken…

Thanks for reading. If interested, read this one about the main characters of my new young adult/fantasy novel titled “BENJAMIN JONES. The Call of The Shaman.” I am really proud of these characters: BENJAMIN JONES. Fiction characters.

Intelligence.

I am all about greater understanding, empathy, intelligence. Not intellectuality. Intellectuals can rise in society because this one is superficial, but in life to know true love and happiness intellectuality cannot help. Intellectuality is a burden, because it makes you stubborn, desperately seeking answers and meaning, it creates the anxiety and the need to belong to groups.

Intelligence, on the other hand, makes you lose stubbornness, it makes you more compassionate, full of understanding of your own actions and its consequences. Intelligence loosens your grip to philosophies and rigid concepts. And intelligence is only adopted by an individual, not by groups.

Simply measure people by character, not by words, not by the money they make, not by the position in society. Asleep idiots, men and women, fall fascinated by the allure of this superficiality, and we then have the chaos, the division, the dull minds in the world.

One needs to let go of trying to fit in and honor one’s group.  Waking up to this is about seeing with the eyes of truth, because no real beauty and love can exist in people who cannot leave their egos and measure others by empathy, by character, by a greater human spirit. Life is simple, because it is about letting go of ego.

Letting go of ego is about detaching yourself from groups, from beliefs, from opinions. Letting go is about freedom. Freedom to become an individual. Not a republican. Not a democrat. Not a liberal. Not a Christian. Not a Buddhist. Not any other group which divides. Letting go is about being an individual who does not seek a fake identity by following and becoming part of a group.

Progress.

I encountered a man once who always talked about politics, blaming politicians and the government. This is all he did. He lived his life blaming others. And when things were wrong in his life, he would always say, “Well, God wants this,” and “Why is God doing this??” It was never his fault, but always another person’s fault. Either a real person in politics or an imaginary belief in the skies. And on top of that, he would look around him daily. If he felt wrong or somehow upset, frustrated or angry, he would blame his boss, or his neighbors, or his own wife. He was totally arrogant and wouldn’t see his own weakness in the pitiful blaming game he was constantly playing.

Life is a string of moments. These moments, each one of them, are originated by choices. Intimate or very personal choices. We are always choosing, even if we are not aware of it. We have a conscious and subconscious. When the conscious does not choose, the subconscious does; and it is automatic. The subconscious is reflected in our habits and behaviors, the ones we are not fully aware of taking. The issue is that if the economy is bad, then you will blame your life on this in order to feel better about your bad conscious and subconscious choices. The same happens with everything in your life. And this is running away from your personal responsibilities.

If you divorce or break up, then you will blame the other person. At least most people do this. In your anxious mind, this excuses you from your own misguided behavior during the relationship. So, what you are doing is denying your own faults; and by this denial you are programming your subconscious to keep making wrong choices in the future. This is not working on yourself, and it is keeping you down in terms of love, happiness, and that great feeling of success we all want. Focusing on yourself, in the other hand, helps you see your own faults; thus you can better understand your own subconscious programming, fix it, and through some soul-searching better yourself.

The Call of The Shaman. Preorder special.

Today feels like any other day, except they reminded me is October 31st, my 40th birthday. I truly never celebrate my birthday as something special. Maybe a nice meal with family. Always receive a call or two from loved ones. And then there’s the pouring of ‘Happy Birthdays’ from Facebook friends and followers to my notifications and to my private inbox. Really feel the love, but for me it is just another day. I am not into all these, except holidays like Christmas, Easter, and maybe Thanksgiving with family. When you are content and grateful every day like me, you don’t really feel a necessity to celebrate society’s inventions. I only love the ones I get to enjoy having a nice moment with family.

I am not into parties or celebrating with a bunch of people, as I mentioned. I don’t drink alcohol. I really watch what I eat, which means I wouldn’t treat my body like most do in a celebration. But one thing is special about this day. Definitely! Today I’ve launched my preorder special. Preorder on my young adult novel titled “BENJAMIN JONES. The Call of The Shaman.” Now, you have to understand that this is not considered just a job, or something I do. Writing is my passion! Creating is what I am all about! I have practiced, literally, every day in front of a computer for 20 years. I have given up many things to sit down and perfect my craft daily without excuse.

Einstein has said that to reach the genius level in any craft or art, you must at least practice every day for 10 years. Well, I have 20 years working on my writing. I am proud of it, and I am not shy about it. So, please click below, and go find out what it is all about. This story fuses ancient aliens, ancient wisdom, and lots of action and adventure taking place somewhere in U.S in the 1890s.

BENJAMIN JONES. More fiction characters.

So, in a past post or blog I shared a chapter called “Chat with a Necromancer,” which is a crucial one in my upcoming young adult, fantasy and mystery novel “BENJAMIN JONES – The Call of The Shaman.” And I also wrote a blog about the three main characters in the same series, titled “BENJAMIN JONES. Fiction characters.

Well, this blog post is about the rest of the characters of this magical story. Three more characters which are also very important and bring a touch of laughter, innocence, magic, cruelty, craziness and mystery to the story. This is a story which is emotional as it is mystical, because the aim here is not just to entertain but to expand the mind and learn about life and the journey we all have to take. This story is unique, but if I have to name the novels which inspired me to write it I would say: 1- Harry Potter. 2- The Alchemist. 3- The Chronicles of Narnia.

Shadow: Ben enters a magic swamp, and his own shadow comes to life because of it. Shadow has been trapped as an immobile and dull shadow for too long (12 years), so now he has become animate. He talks fast, manic, and he is very loyal to Ben. Also he can be a little irritating. But he brings a little magic and laughter wherever he goes. He will be a great ally and companion, full of secrets and magic, in Ben’s quest.

Gemlik: Ben meets Gemlik as he begins to discover his own magic and his curse. Gemlik is a ghoul, but he is different than the other ghouls. That is because Gemlik is a cursed god. He was one of the gods who came down from the heavens in mankind’s beginnings. And so, Gemlik has many powers and contacts in the necro world. He also desires to communicate with his family, who have gone to Heaven. Gemlik joins Ben’s quest as his friend. He is a naughty, yet loyal and comical ghoul.

Lord Furvusmortem: This is Ben’s nemesis. The Voldemort to Harry Potter. Lord Furvusmortem is ‘The Necromancer of The Four Winds.’ He was also there at the beginning of humanity. He was a learned of The Dark Magic Arts. He was cursed by his own hand. And now he has become a powerful necromancer who seeks to destroy Ben (Wolf boy). Why does he want to destroy him..?? You will have to find out for yourself when the novel comes out (very, very soon!). Just know that Lord Furvusmortem is an enigma, shrouded in mystery, and that he has unimaginable powers since he is The Lord of The Necro Dimension.

To conclude, this young adult, fantasy, mystery novel is full of adventure and profound questions. It will keep you wondering and following the action of the same. But, since I am also a nonfiction, spiritual, self-help author I have also written this story to inspire and bring some real insight in your own life; because my goal is to bring some light into your own struggle. I think all literature must leave a great message and guide you into some self-discovery of your own.

Need of a change

In need of a wake up call…?? In need of some inspiration and understanding??

This is a poetry review for “Need of a change,” a book by Rita Rana.

We all seek inspiration, maybe something which can guide us or wake up our inner moral compass. I know I do. This life can be deceitful, or, better put, our minds can lead us into something negative, depression, worthlessness, wrong choices, etc. By our minds I mean our egos. This poetry book is just about this. It is simple, yet very deep. I would say it is very honest about what sometimes people seem to forget. It reminds us of the right path to follow, and I think the author means to share her own life with us by connecting through her poetry.

It is not about her life per se, but the author uses an emotional tone we can all find relevant. Each poem is designed to paint a mental picture and help you think about your own life and where this one is going, in order for you to wake up and see what you must do to change for the better. All love and happiness is an inner work, and an inner success. Personally, I find this the message. It reminded me of the important things that must come first in my life. I could even add that it took me on a journey of self-discovery, because self-discovery never ends as long as you are alive; and so, books like this one can help you enormously in your journey.

So, to finalize, I really recommend this book. If you are like me, into self-development and inspiration to become a better human being, then this is definitely a poetry book worth both your time and money.

I GIVE THIS ONE 4 STARS OUT OF 5.

BENJAMIN JONES. Fiction characters.

So, in a past post or blog I shared a chapter called “Chat with a Necromancer,” which is a crucial one in my upcoming young adult, fantasy and mystery novel “BENJAMIN JONES – The Call of The Shaman.” And I thought that I would write a little bit about the main characters now, because this story is deep and it starts with the beginning of humanity, and also because I will be making this a series. This story has much to tell.

In my story, we start with 4 main characters. ‘Benjamin Jones’ (a 12-year-old orphan), ‘Jake Sullivan’ (an 11-year-old orphan), ‘Adit Acharya’ (spiritual guide and friend), and ‘Lord Furvusmortem’ (necromancer and main villain shrouded in mystery). These characters add background, action, laughter, emotional touch, adventure, cruelty and mystery to the story. But as the story develops, we also come across very important, new characters. Purely magical characters. We have now ‘Gemlik The ghoul’ (ancient god cursed to be a ghoul for eternity) and ‘Shadow’ (this is Ben’s shadow now alive due to magic).

I will write about the first three main characters in this posting. On a later posting, I will write about the last three.

Benjamin Jones: Ben is the most important character, and he is a Pawnee (native). He is the son of a powerful shaman. His mother died of a terrible illness. His father was taken by the Sioux (native enemies). Ben has been shunned by his people, because they believe he is cursed. So, now Ben lives in an orphanage. But he is also very special, but does not know it. He sees visions of his father. He is trying to discover his magic and his shamanic roots, and for this he will have to return ‘The Sphere of Truth and Wisdom’ taken by ‘The Necromancer of The Four Winds.’ But Ben might also be the reincarnation of a demigod who lived in the beginnings of humanity as we know it, at a time when the gods came from the skies. This demi-god was known as ‘Wolf boy’ or ‘Burned Belly.’

Jake Sullivan: Jake is Ben’s best friend in the orphanage. Also he is very intelligent and positive, and so he brings laughter to the story. His father died of cholera, and Jake had suffered much because of it.  His depressed mother had fallen into serious drinking, and that is why Jake has been placed in an orphanage until she can get better.  Jake and Ben share a profound bond and their friendship only grows and gets stronger as the story unfolds. Ben also might be destined to become a great magician beside his good friend.

Adit Acharya: Adit is Ben’s spiritual guru or guide, and he is also a good friend and an author of spiritual books. Adit knew Ben’s father, they were good friends. Adit lost his mother to a terrible illness, and his father left him as a baby on the doorsteps of a wealthy family. He grew up seeking himself, and he thus became a great healer and more. He will be a great character, crucial in the story due to his wisdom, spiritual guidance, and also healing and magical abilities.

This fiction story is not just about fantasy and entertainment, but it is also about finding yourself and learning about yourself. Throughout it, you can appreciate the wisdom and deep insights shared. With this work, I aim to entertain but also help the reader become aware of his own situation in life. I seek to bring some inspiration and guidance. I have 20 years experience in professional writing and pride myself on my talents for delivering my messages through the printed word. This is a story sure to get your full attention and make you think, as well as become immersed in the magic world of BENJAMIN JONES.

Barnaby Brown and The Time Machine.

This is a review for “Barnaby Brown and The Time Machine.” This is a young adult fantasy novel full of engaging action and entertainment. I found this one very intense as it goes through several stages, since it is about time travel as it moves onto a more intense plot involving aliens.

This one was a surprising read, at least for me. Surprising good, exciting, fantasy driven. The story starts with Barnaby getting used to his new school in New York, since he is a newly arrived Englishboy. But as he meets friends and the story gets interesting, we begin to see how curious he is and how much potential for something more there is now in the story. The story evolves fast, and the plot thickens. He begins to time travel and discover new things about how time works, what science can do, and finally what he holds inside. As a new arrival from another planet teaches him to protect his world from a new threat, he unleashes that potential and we see him doing fantastical things only a hero does.

This story is rich in ideas and imagination, which is particularly what I am all about since I am also writing my first young adult fantasy novel called “BENJAMIN JONES. The Call of The Shaman” to be released soon. I felt transported to all the places and situations in the story. “BARNABY BROWN and The Time machine” is very well-written and very creative. I find that we all need some of this to ease our own minds and expand our imagination. I really recommend this one. Personally, I like the fact that all of the author’s books aim to expand imagination, and these stories push you to ask yourself “what if I was in this situation?? What would I do??” The situations are somewhat fantastical, highly imaginative, and they offer great insights into reality.

I give him a great 4 stars.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

He says…

A Scot now living in Singapore, which means I’m confused by warm rain and freezing cold cinemas. Nevertheless, I have some fantastic space and views to allow my creativity to wander.

I completed my first book in Scotland, a test, to see if I could get through the process and layer stories to keep them fluid and fun. Everyday, my 3 hour round trip on the bus from Edinburgh to the Scottish Borders allowed me a little sandbox in which to bury myself and focus.

I love adventure, let’s face it, who doesn’t? My work so far is science fiction but with a strong tether in reality. It’s situational, questioning how you would react in these circumstances. The first book was focused on adults but now I’m working on a series (Barnaby Brown) that I think encapsulates the best elements of all true universal adventures and is aimed to children and adults alike, an adventure they can all take at bedtime or whenever.
