Self-help life truths.

The ugly and heavy rocks.

Habits become who we are and they mold our futures, but addictions are habits which are foolish and habits which you haven’t thought through; of course, your ego trap is that you think through all that you do, but addictions only happen when we are not leaders of our own minds, they happen when we are followers of other people and society–this EXTREMELY weakens you.

“A few vices are sufficient to darken many virtues.”  ~ Plutarch; ancient Greek biographer and essayist.

This morning while walking my dog I encountered a guy, like I had many times before, bumming cigarettes, poorly dressed and with a really anxious demeanor and countenance.  He came to me and asked me for a smoke; of course, I told him I don’t smoke, but it also made me think of the fear that wretched vice was holding in his weakened mind, he wasn’t able to control his urges thus becoming a puppet of the addiction of smoke.
I wanted to write this because vices and their fears are poisoning our minds, and they are keeping humans hostage, not able to express fully their excellence through talents and creative thinking; furthermore, vices themselves are ruling over the minds of people making them weak and subservient.  Most of us are not able to be absolutely free because of these vices which act subtly over the hearts and minds of men and women.  And then people complain about not having success in their own lives, and also become jealous of other people who do embrace their own excellence through controlling their urges.  Human vices–i.e. smoking, drinking, any drug addiction, food addiction, sex addiction, friending your fears, work addiction, etc. etc.–are the very heart of mediocrity and misery in people, perhaps subconsciously; because these things soil your higher talents and higher thought processes.

Habits are what shape us as human beings, what either elevates or diminishes our mind, our thought processes of creativity and understanding; therefore, if we do not watch what we do and just acquire foolish habits, we will not achieve excellence in our lives, and not even a life we can be proud of beyond our nonsensical egos.  Habits can destroy your happiness or help you embrace happiness, and it is always up to you, up to what you choose to start doing in your everyday living.

And vices come in many forms and varieties, as you deep inside can understand, but the thing to have in mind all the time is that spiritual values, or the mighty power of the human spirit to achieve all we need and desire in our own lives, are the expression of our higher selves, the expression of who we are beyond fear and stress and all anxieties.  And addictions, OF ANY KIND, bury that power of expression and genius we all have deep under muddy layers of mediocrity and filth.
This seems dramatic, and even over-the-top, but deep inside you know it to be true; because there is a small light of wisdom within you that tells you what is right and what is wrong, but perhaps your ego and foolish desires cover that wisdom on a daily basis.
