Any true affection must be demonstrated by letting the other person be who they are. And when they are upset or anxious, be there for them; but also know when to give them space, and when to walk away.
It’s not just in the words or in the time together; but in the time apart and in the times of silence as well. Because what connection and all affection, if real, need to grow strong and be healthy is freedom.
The Only Gift
The gift of freedom. If there is no freedom to be who you are, then there is no space for growth, either as an individual and/or together as a family. Always seek to feel free.
And if you don’t feel free, ask for the respect of freedom to be given to you. Otherwise, don’t waste mental health and time, walk away and seek freedom as an individual. Make no excuses for this.
Your Life To Live
Excuses make the disease grow stronger, and in time having no freedom will seem normal; and your mind and heart will be affected, as your belief in yourself and self-respect will be damaged irreparably as well.
This is no life to live. Because life is about enjoying yourself, and about discovering yourself. If you are enslaved, if you have no freedom within you, then you cannot discover yourself and your worth.
